We got up and packed our things, checked out, and walked the 10 minutes round the corner to the bus station. We checked our luggage in and then Josh went round the corner to Harvest coffeehouse to buy us breakfast. He came back with coffees and a lovely toasted avocado flatbread, boy did good! We hopped on our bus, a little less luxurious today, as it was only a short journey. We were in our favourite spot, top deck front seats. We got ourselves nestled in and each put a podcast on and soon fell asleep. We were awoken to the hostess serving us an unexpected chicken and rice lunch. We finished the food up and within another half hour were pulling into the bus terminal in Nasca, our next stop. We hopped in a taxi to our hostel ‘la maison de Lydia’ where we checked in and got shown to our room. The hostel is so new that there is still building work happening; our next-door room on the first floor was a shell of a brick room! It is a lovely hostel though, we had a large double room with and en suite, a swimming pool, and breakfast included. It also had a mirror and coat hangers, which seem to be a rare luxury in Peruvian rooms and hostels! After dumping our stuff we decided to use the rest of the afternoon to explore the small city of Nasca. It really is small, I think we saw most of the town in the couple of hours that evening! We stopped in a cafe for an early dinner and then walked back to the hostel. The town is pretty run down with very few obvious things to see or do. We didn’t see many tourists at all, I think most may do a day trip to see the Nasca lines from Ica rather than pitch up in the town for the night. For us it was in the right direction anyway, so helped break up our journey. We got back to our room and spoke to mum and dad on a video call. They were just going to bed at home. I cut Josh’s hair in the shower, which was funny, but worked out o.k. in the end, not Luigi standard though! Then we showered –the water was warm but there wasn’t much power. We later learnt that water is still very precious in Nasca, and the locals are only granted one hour of running water a day, so that explains it! Apparently on average Nasca only gets one hour of rainfall in a whole year, imagine that!

About us

We are Josh and Jen and we created this site so we could have somewhere to combine Jens writing and Josh's photos of our year traveling together. It is a little keepsake for us, and also a way for friends and family to keep up to date with where we are and what we are up to.
