We finished last night by walking up to the community centre round the corner which had some live music and some little fete stalls. It was dreadlock and boho central! We had a little look around and then wandered back to our cabin because Joshs birthday wish was to watch Lord of The Rings on Netflix!

We woke up and it was Joshs 31st birthday! I quickly put the banners up (most well travelled banners ever) that we have been reusing for each others birthdays for the last 3 years! Josh opened a card from his parents that he had been carrying since we left England, and it was signed mum and signed Dad twice, so he came to the conclusion that this was their way of telling him he had two dads! We had a coffee in bed and then a nice brunch and got ourselves up. Our host, Veck, who lives in her house next door, drove us into the nearby town called Piriapolis to the supermarket to buy some groceries. It was about a 15 minute drive. The town was really busy and Veck told us it is the height of peak season. The supermarket was accordingly busy, and although had everything we would need, was tiny and had aisles only 1 person wide, peoples elbows were out! We piled our basket up as much as we could, as we knew this could potentially be our one and only food shop for the next few days. Punta Negra, where we are based, has a couple of shops (huts) to buy very basics such as water or rice, but not much else! We tried to pay by card, but the shop, as usual, struggled to understand that we have a Mastercard debit card. Thankfully we had some dollars and cash in our wallet that we scraped together to pay with in the end! We went back to our cabin and unpacked the shopping. Josh spoke to a load of his family/friends on FaceTime and we made some tuna pasta for lunch. In the afternoon we caught the bus 15 minutes down the road to playa Chihuahua. It is a beautiful sand dune beach, and is a nudist/naturist beach! Josh had read about it and had decided he wanted to be in his birthday suit on his birthday! We found a spot on the sand (luckily it was very quiet as although still warm, it was quite an overcast day!) and stripped off! Josh had brought his camera and tripod so he had fun getting some birthday self portraits. We popped a bottle of fizz and tried to drink it on the beach but it tasted absolutely fowl so that plan failed! It started to drizzle with rain, so we got dressed and caught the bus back to our cabin. We made vegetable wraps for dinner and Josh finished watching Lord of The Rings whilst I read my new book (Pretty Iconic, by Sali Hughes).

About us

We are Josh and Jen and we created this site so we could have somewhere to combine Jens writing and Josh's photos of our year traveling together. It is a little keepsake for us, and also a way for friends and family to keep up to date with where we are and what we are up to.
