We got up early and went down the dirt track in search of a mysterious caravan that apparently comes every morning with a load of fresh French bread and pastries. We had been told to make sure we were on time as it sells so fast. By the time we arrived at the crossroads, there were already a couple of people waiting. We joined them sitting in the grass. It was already boiling hot, and very peaceful. After waiting a good 45 minutes we copied the couple ahead of us, and gave up waiting. It was early and a Sunday, perhaps the French lady had decided not to bake today! Instead Josh and I walked to the minimarket and grabbed some bits for the day ahead. We weren’t too disappointed as the minimarket had its own fresh bakery anyway, and at a dollar for six fresh croissants, we were happy! We walked back to our cabins and had a coffee and bowl of cereal. We sat on the decking of our cabin and chilled out for the morning. We saw another of the iguana things we had seen the day before! After sending the photos to aunty Hilary, she had figured out that the animal is called an Argentine Tegu, after learning that it had a forked tongue which makes it quite unique! We checked with our host and she confirmed it was a Tegu, well done Aunty Hilary! Aunty Hilary suggested a YouTube video where a dog is attacked by a Tegu – man those lizards move fast, and you wouldn’t want to be in its bad books! I read online that the reptiles are highly intelligent and sometimes appear curious of humans – which I really believe we witnessed yesterday, it was far less nervous of me than I had anticipated, and almost seemed to talk to me that it wanted me to peel the fruit and throw it to him! It is pretty cool to stay in a place where you just experience these animals in their natural habitat!
Josh and I made brunch and got ourselves ready to go into the sun. Josh has been in a rashvest all week as we have run out of the Parasol suncream and the Nivea F30 just doesn’t even compare! Wer got our stuff ready and walked down to a beach called playa Grande, it was a bit smaller and quieter than the beach we have gone to the last couple of days. We sat on my sarong and read/sun bathed, napped, before heading into the waves to cool off. We had a swim and then sat in the sun again to dry off and warm up. Once mostly dry, at around 18:00 we headed back to our cabin. The beach was actually filling up at this time, I guess people coming down to enjoy the less intense sun and to watch the sunset which is at about 20:30 at the moment. We got back and showered in the outside shower cubicles before starting on dinner. We are trying to eat up stuff we have been lugging around as the ‘snack bag’ has become more of a portable kitchen. So bit of a random dinner, tomato/lentils and homemade chips! We played some table tennis whilst we cooked and packed most of our things up for the travel day tomorrow. We have started watching Breaking Bad on Netflix.
