We got up and were invited to join our three air bnb hosts for breakfast. Frederico ‘s job is to cater for small projects like photo shoots and galleries, so there was a nice spread of homemade jams and cakes, and sourdough toast. It felt like such a nice start to the day, to all share breakfast together. Luckily for us they all speak really good English, and seemed eager to chat with us. We helped clear up, showered and then relaxed in the lovely lounge area. It is super spacious and has air conditioning, which has felt necessary for the last couple of days! We walked through town, which was pretty dead, and eventually found somewhere that sold us Chivito. Chivito is basically a huge steak sandwich with ALL the trimmings, and is the national dish of Uruguay. We were pretty hungry by this point so the huge sharing plate for two went down quite easily! Next we walked into the centre of town, past the central plaza, to find a big supermarket where we planned on stocking up on some food to take with us tomorrow, to our beach hut! Josh wanted to pick up a book from a bookshop along the way but absolutely everything was shut by about 17:00, for reasons unbeknown to us! We found the supermarket and starting stocking up, but I suddenly and very quickly needed the toilet, and it was urgent. Josh ran around the shop and tried to quickly scoop some bits into the basket. We think that the place we are staying in from tomorrow doesn’t have much in the way of shops so it was definitely wise to at least buy a few bits. When it got to the point where I couldn’t uncross my legs, laugh, talk or move, for fear of an accident, Josh quickly took action, paid up and got us into a taxi back home. Thankfully I made it to the toilet, I don’t think the Chivito lasted long in my tummy though! My tummy is definitely far more sensitive than it ever has been before since being properly ill a couple of times during this trip! After sorting myself out, we braved walking through the local area (Josh wasn’t too happy about that) to the boardwalk, or as they call it here, the rambla. The sun was low, bright and hot, and there were lots of people fishing, sitting in the sun, and even people swimming in the water. We sat by the sea for a little while before walking home and cooling back down in the air conditioning in the lounge.
We packed our things, showered (it’s a twice a day shower kind of temperature here in Montevideo) and got into bed.
