Another relaxing morning. We got up late and went to the bakery for some supplies, and collected our fresh laundry. Probably our last batch of laundry until home! We had some scrambled eggs and then relaxed in our house in the fan avoiding the hottest part of the day. We met up with Joe and Henna and walked through the old town to the 3 pence elevator that took us down to the Mercado Modelo, a souvenir market near the port. We all bought a few bits and bobs to remember our time with, and then went to the café upstairs that had a lovely view across the harbour. Joe and Henna shared a moqueca and Josh and I had some rice and beans. The waitresses were wearing the traditional dress with big dresses and colourful headscarves. After some food we walked back and got the elevator up to the old town, getting checked through the male and female carnival police searches on the way through. We walked through the town, watching some street dancing and some smaller bloccos playing samba. We bought some supplies from the minimarket at the bottom of our hill, then went to the flat and made pancakes for pancake day. We had cheese and marmite pancakes and had fun flipping the pancakes around, although all that cooking was hot work! We ended up with full bellies and all sprawled out on our bed in the fan. Joe and Henna left and we got a much needed early night.

About us

We are Josh and Jen and we created this site so we could have somewhere to combine Jens writing and Josh's photos of our year traveling together. It is a little keepsake for us, and also a way for friends and family to keep up to date with where we are and what we are up to.
