Woke up at 0700, had breakfast, packed our things and caught the bus to the airport. We checked in and then Josh got stopped at security when they scanned our bags. He immediately looked guilty because after months of accidentally taking the penknife in his hand luggage, today we had made a conscious decision to bring it through to make our packed lunch with. Turns our it was his waterproof camera housing that set the machine off, so all ok and packed lunch could go ahead! We very easily passed time using the free aiport wifi, and the small airport was absolutely packed. When we boarded the plan we were offered different seats with more leg room, in order to get a family sitting together, it ended up being a bit of a kerfuffle and I think a few feathers got ruffled by just about everyone who had to swap around! Josh ended up sat next to a lady who chatted with him for the whole flight, and had to pass a smelly cheese sandwich to me via the lady. We had a quick pit stop in Rio, with just enough time for a quick toilet break, and then boarded the same plane again. We got moved by the air stewards again, but I think this time as a little sorry/thank you for the trouble on the prior flight! The view of Rio as we took off was pretty impressive and we saw the Christ the Redeemer statue on the way up! It was a bit of a contrast to Sao Paulo as we were landing, which was concrete as far as the eye could see! We got an airport bus to a central station and from there hopped into a taxi to Peter and Consuelo’s address in central Sao Paulo. The concierge was expecting us, so et us in, handed me an envelope with a key inside and put us in the lift. The building is huge! We got up to the third floor and Beto let us in. I do remember certain rooms from the apartment from 20 years ago, like the impressive hall way with the black and white floor and the big workshop table that Peter later told us had had to be hoisted up and through the windows because it is so big! Beto showed us around, the apartment has so many lovely things to look at. Peter had also written a letter as he couldn’t be there to greet us, explaining a few things. We unpacked and got settled into our room (Joannas room) and then went for some dinner. Beto suggested an all you can eat sushi place round the corner, so the three of us went there and filled our boots.
