We woke up at 0700, had some breakfast, made a packed lunch and packed our bags up, then walked to the bus stop just a block from where we are staying. We boarded the heaving bus to the bird sanctuary, which dad had recommended to us. We bought our tickets and wandered around the sanctuary, where we saw flamingos (beaut colour!), toucans (crazy beaks!), tortoises riding the backs of caiman, maccaws, and Josh was just as happy with the numerous golden orb spiders we came across! It really was worth the visit! We enjoyed the gift shop too and bought a couple of crafts from there. Then we walked along the road to the Brasil entrance of the falls, bought our tickets and joined the humongous queue to get the shuttle bus up to the top of the park. By the time we got to the top of the park we were hungry, so we sat on the picnic tables and enjoyed our sandwiches with a view of the falls. We saw loads of Tegus and Coatis wandering around stealing snacks from fellow tourists. We walked down the park to the lifts with panoramic views, which we took down to the main viewpoint. I don’t think one could ever tire of that spectacular view. We walked along the platform and manage to elbow our way through the crowds to get some undisturbed views. We walked along the trail all the while trying to absorb as much of the view as possible. It was really sunny and hot, and the park was busy. We had a water pit stop before finding the bus stop and getting the shuttle bus back down to the exit. We got our passports stamped in the tourist office then got on the bus back into town to our accommodation. I was a nodding dog all the way home. We showered and relaxed in the a.c. for a bit before wandering along our road to a restaurant ‘Emporio com Arte’ on the corner of our street, which was very reasonably priced and had very good reviews. Josh and I each had a caiprinha, and had stuffed yukka for starters, mine was stuffed with banana and Joshs with meat. For mains we had a chicken curry which had banana and pineapple in it, it is hard to explain and it definitely tasted much nicer than it sounds. The vibe was traditional Brasilian food with a twist, and our waiter was also the owner of the restaurant. He very passionately explained what each dish was to us. After enjoying the gorgeous food, we wandered down to the supermarket and bought some food to have as a packed lunch tomorrow.
