We got a few hours of actual sleep once the music had stopped, and then it was breakfast at 0900. We had coffee, watermelon juice (so so good!), bread and cheese, and fruit. The breakfast room was obviously the same room our host lives in, there was a little bed in the corner of the room, a small desk and a few books, and I got the feeling these were all his worldly possessions. It was a beautiful room with tonnes of character. He was very kind, and apologised about the noise admitting he had not had a good nights sleep either. We met a couple of people over breakfast who had been out dancing, and who told us Morro de Sao Paulo is beautiful, so we are looking forward to going there tomorrow. We packed our things up and got an Uber to our next Air bnb, who had kindly agreed for us to check in early. We got showed into the apartment by the hosts friend Lala. It is nice to have some air conditioning so we sat in that and cooled off for a little while. We showered and sorted our stuff out before speaking to Joe and Henna who are in Lisbon, and flyng out to meet us today. Then we got an Uber to the port where we bought boat tickets for the four of us for Morrow de Sao Paulo. The port was right next to the Mercado Modelo, a place recommended for souvenirs. We had an eyeball around, we don’t want to carry things for the next two weeks but plan on picking up a few bits here before flying home. Josh found a great pair of matching shorts and vest so snapped those up as his little funky outfit for carnival. Then we got the elevator up, which joins the lower and upper part of the city, and cost about 3p each. It is a public transport elevator. When we got to the top we had great views out across the city. We were basically back in the centro historico part of the city near to where we had stayed last night. I just managed to dodge getting my arms painted in body paint (which I would have had to have paid for) as we got out the lift. We walked through the beautiful cobbled streets, thumbing through some clothes and souvenirs along the way. We really regret not buying more souvenirs in Bolivia so want to make sure we don’t make the same mistakes again here. We walked up to our apartment and then used Google maps to find a supermarket. When we found them they were all closed, it is a Sunday afternoon here. There were a few street parties though which were very lively, and it was fun to watch people dancing for a while. We wandered back on ourselves and ended up having lunch in the café that we had our pizza in last night, if it aint broke don’t fix it! We also did a recky and found all the different accommodation the four of us will be staying in over the next week or so. We bought some bottles of water and wandered back to our apartment by about 16:15, where we collapsed into the air conditioning and both fell asleep for a while. Then I updated the diary and Josh made us a coffee. It gets dark so early here, at around 18:15! We got an Uber to the airport to pick Joe and Henna up and excitedly greeted them at the arrival gate. We Ubered back to the air bnb together and chatted for a while before going for a little walk around the local area, picking up some breakfast bits and a few drinks that we drank in the flat before bed.

About us

We are Josh and Jen and we created this site so we could have somewhere to combine Jens writing and Josh's photos of our year traveling together. It is a little keepsake for us, and also a way for friends and family to keep up to date with where we are and what we are up to.
