01/01/2020 – New Year! Punta Negra, Uruguay

It is so nice to wake up feeling fresh on New Years day! We fest very smug as we realised how all our friends would be feeling today back home! We had a coffee and chilled. It is another overcast day. This has been a blessing the last few days really as it has meant we have had a lot of chill time, which I think we needed! We had brunch, looked up some buses and booked some accommodation for in a few days time. We chilled (booking stuff for Brasil, emailing, life admin etc) and then went for an afternoon walk along the sand dunes. It was a beautiful warm, windy and overcast day, a lovely day for some sea air! We took a long walk and then came back to the cabin. Josh organised some exercises to do (don’t think I will be able to use my arms tomorrow) as it is the whole new year new me thing today isn’t it?! We made prepared our dinner (roast veggies) showered, and continued with more Brasil planning. It is summer holidays here so everything is getting booked up and expensive so we need to try and be a bit more organised! We ate dinner and then I did the diary. It is so peaceful here at night. There is a noise almost like a motorbike whizzing past that Josh says is probably frogs! The size of some of the frogs we have seen in South America – they are literally the size of a coconut! We have one in our shower here (thankfully not one of the giant ones!) –it freaks me out no end. I knock when I enter the bathroom to try and get him to not jump when I jump when I see him!
