Halloween! And a long weekend in Chile. Most people have tomorrow off and so tonight is supposed to be a big one. I had quite a relaxed day, wandered through town, read some book, played some games. I had found some old mouldy facepaints in the bar, so I scraped the mushrooms off it and painted my face (using a lollipop stick and a pencil to apply it – very resourceful!) Then I opened the bar up. Nea (Aus volunteer) had decorated the bar with some cobwebs and other Halloween bits. I put some spooky music on (Addams family, ghostbusters etc etc – classic!) Before long the party was rolling and everyone had facepaint on! Josh and Lucas had organised some spooky vodka/pinacolada shots, which they sold on the side too. Everyone was merry and left to get into mamas and tapas – the local bar/club. Lucas, who had been working on reception, and I stayed behind to count the tills and clear up. We got everything sorted and then headed out to find the others. The bar was heaving! Luckily Lucas (a regular here) managed to get us both in for free! We went straight to the dancefloor where half the people were either volunteers or guests from our hostel which was quite fun! I had stayed relatively sober to run the bar so it was quite funny watching everyone else, who were having a very good time! Josh and I got in just before 0400 and found two hysterical girls in the lounge with some guys looking after them. They were rolling around on the floor and occasionally coughing/retching. The guys told me they had called an ambulance an hour ago and they thought the girls drinks had been spiked. I managed to calm everything down, but embarrassingly the paramedics turned up. To be honest I had seen the girls in the club and asked some people with them if they were ok, as they already seemed too drunk. I’m not certain their drinks were spiked but I guess we will never know. After spending an hour reassuring them and calming everything down I went to bed. Lucas had got in and took over, managing to get them into some beds for the night.
