We got up and spoke to Trudie and Pete briefly before getting ready for work, it was their 40 year wedding anniversary yesterday! I cleaned the bungalows and did laundry, nothing too exciting except for scrubbing blood off the white sheets after a guess had a nosebleed all over them! Josh’s tasks involved varnishing one of the doors of a guest’s bungalow. There were all sorts of conundrums and the door ended up being taken off the hinges and put back on again unbeknown to the guests who were out for the day! Peter panics and stresses about things and makes them harder to deal with and I could hear Josh trying to make the conversation calmer and more constructive. I can’t imagine him working a really stressful job! Ringo the dog got attacked by 3 stray dogs – I heard him squealing which sounded awful. I was closest in one of the guest bungalows so went outside and shouted for Peter who didn’t come. Josh came and threw a rock nearby which scared the dogs off. Ringo came back bleeding and limping. When I tried to tell Peter that Ringo needed looking at he told me he was too busy with the door. Dogs are not pets here they are guard dogs - I have seen this before but it is different to experience. Ringo will probably end up seriously hurt or dying protecting his human family and yet the human family doesn’t care! He didn’t even get a pat on the head! It really does make me laugh in these situations when I think of Coco living the life of luxury, sitting on our laps, relaxing on the sofa, watching the t.v. when we are out e.t.c e.t.c !

For lunch we had rice and beef stir-fry. We hugged Petra goodbye, who was quite relieved to be heading back to the mainland today. We cleared up after lunch, and did a bit more work before Josh and I regrouped in our studio for a coffee. We made up some powdered milk (Peter is giving us powdered milk instead of real milk for breakfast now, I guess it is cheaper!) It smells like the milk room at work and it has the same plastic scoop. It might even be baby milk I am not sure! I am waiting for it to cool before I do the taste test. Plan is to run this evening and read our books.

Josh did his last electrical shift in the hostel, and I had my last bar shift today! We wandered through town for the last time together...

About us

We are Josh and Jen and we created this site so we could have somewhere to combine Jens writing and Josh's photos of our year traveling together. It is a little keepsake for us, and also a way for friends and family to keep up to date with where we are and what we are up to.
