I woke up before sunrise needing the toilet. It was so peaceful outside, just a rooster warming up and the sound of crickets. I think we were the only ones on site so it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. The bed is old and the mattress sank in the middle, so Josh and I kept ending up in a pile in the middle of the bed. I rolled around trying to get back to sleep before putting a podcast on and drifting off for a morning snooze. This is the life eh! I woke up to Josh watching some friends on the ipad, and gradually came to, late in the morning. We ordered some breakfast in the restaurant next door, scrambled eggs, bread, jam and fresh juice. After that we spent the morning outside on the veranda in the shade, Josh editing photos and I doing some much-needed correspondence. A group of American teenagers arrived so it is no longer solely our house, can’t believe it! We got a late lunch of plantain, fried eggs and rice, a classic Cuban dish. Then we went up and sat on the sun loungers by the pool, playing a few competitive games of monopoly deal. There are lots of big dangly birds nests, they look like drop earrings, hanging from the trees, and lots of black and yellow birds going to and fro. There is a view across the valley of the mountains, green foliage and beautiful flowers as well as a lemon tree surrounding the pool and as far as the eye can see.

There are lots of insects too, much to Josh’s delight, and we already have a fair few mosquito bites between us! As the sun went down and the mosquitos grew in numbers, we went and continued playing cards in our room, this too has a beautiful view! We showered and then relaxed before dinner and bed.
