We had a lovely long sleep and went down for the hostel breakfast at 0900. Bread, jam, cereal yoghurt and fruit. I didn’t brave coffee yet but Josh enjoyed some. We went back to our room and relaxed for a bit. Our room has a window on each of the four walls so it is beautifully light and warm when the sun is out. When I started getting itchy to get out, we showered and left for a little stroll through our local area of Sopocachi. We walked through the little local park and to the square where we found an ‘Alexander Coffee’ to have some lunch. Alexander Coffee is a chain coffee shop, and was specifically recommended in the Lonely Planet for those with a sensitive stomach. We had a slow lunch there, which was lovely, then walked to the nearby cable car station. There are a few different cable car lines across the city, as part of the local public transport system. We got on the Amarillo line, up to the top of the valley, just to enjoy a nice view across the city. We tried to stay on the cable car to go back down, but got ushered out by the staff, who were laughing at us. Turns out you have to get out and buy another ticket to go back down! Luckily a ticket is about 30p, Bolivia is proving to be pretty cheap so far. We went back down in the cable car and walked home via our local grocery shop. The shop has huge sacks of grains and pastas, that I guess one must buy by weight, and a butcher and all sorts of other things. Safe to say that presentation is not important at all here, it is such a funny set up! We went back to our hostel and into our room where we used the WiFi to start planning our movements for the next couple of weeks. We did hours of research, trying to decide our route, our excursions, our accommodation, our travel. It does take a while and it is enjoyable to a point. Then my brain goes to jelly and I have to do something else whilst weighing up some decisions. When we got to this point we went to the kitchen and made an omelette and vegetable dinner. We went back to our room, did a bit more logistical planning, showered and tucked up into bed.

About us

We are Josh and Jen and we created this site so we could have somewhere to combine Jens writing and Josh's photos of our year traveling together. It is a little keepsake for us, and also a way for friends and family to keep up to date with where we are and what we are up to.
