We had a slow morning - coffee in bed, followed by some scrambled eggs. We spent a couple of hours chilling in the lounge in front of the fire. It was a grey morning outside. Josh and I both have today off and had planned on tagging along with some guests on an excursion to the thermal springs. Unfortunately not enough people had signed up by 12:30 so that got cancelled. With no other activities today apart from the volcano, we got ourselves up and out of the house and went for a stroll. The sun was out now and it was blue skies ahead. We walked across the peninsula and along the dark sand beach, a couple of stray dogs tagged along with us. We walked for a couple of hours before heading back to the hostel to do some baking! We got a recipe from BBC goodfood and bought the ingredients from the nearby supermarket. The hostel has an oven and not just a stove top – the first time we have been able to use an oven in 6 months! We got back to the hostel and Josh received a call from Sargie so they had a catch up whilst I made some brownies. There were no scales so I guessed amounts using a pint glass as a rough guide. They came out pretty good if I do say so myself, and we shared them with the other volunteers and a couple of guests who were around the hostel at the time. Josh has got into chess in the last few days and has downloaded an online game so he played Sargie on that. Then we went back to the supermarket, bought a hot chicken and some bits for fajitas. We made dinner. The lake was really calm as the sun was setting. There was hardly any wind so we took the stand up paddleboard out for a trial run. Joshs first time on a paddleboard! We managed to get two of us on it at the same time, Josh sitting down on the board and I paddling. It was a bit wobbly like that and Josh got a bit cold! When we went back into the hostel Nea, one of the other volunteers, made us all a hot chocolate. We sat in the lounge chilling with the other volunteers for a couple of hours. Showers, and we were in bed before midnight.

Josh did his last electrical shift in the hostel, and I had my last bar shift today! We wandered through town for the last time together...

About us

We are Josh and Jen and we created this site so we could have somewhere to combine Jens writing and Josh's photos of our year traveling together. It is a little keepsake for us, and also a way for friends and family to keep up to date with where we are and what we are up to.
