23/09/2019 – Volunteering, Easter Island, Chile

We got up and started work at 10:00 as usual. Josh was back to strimming and raking the grass. I had a deep clean in bungalow 2 to finish and a guest checking out of bungalow 3 later in the day, so that bungalow would also need to be sorted out. When I went into bungalow 2 Peter had obviously been in over the last couple of days and made such a mess! He had brought numerous sheets up and had left them strewn all over the place. He had messed up the tidy laundry room too. I was so annoyed after I had taken extra time to make everything clean, neat and tidy before my days off. Peter had only created more work for me! At lunch he complained that his daughters never put any of their toys away and it really annoys him, and I was thinking that was exactly what he had done too! I had to really bite my tongue as he spoke quite rudely to me a few times when I went to ask him things (like where he had put the stuff I had got ready) and I think it was because Josh wasn’t with me that he felt able to say those things to me! I bit my tongue long enough to help wash and clear up after lunch and then ran back to the bungalows to get away from him and get on with my job! Josh and I finished up work by sorting the laundry room. There were no guests here by the afternoon so Josh and I snuck into bungalow 2 to make use of the better wifi signal. We called Joe and Henna who had big news - they just got engaged! We were all so excited, and we ended up on the phone for over two hours catching up. They are planning on coming to Brasil to meet us in February which Josh and I are pretty excited about! After that Josh and I drove into the town (Peter said we can borrow the car for the next few days) and bought some Chilenean wine to toast our friends. We got back home and shared a bottle and ate some dinner. We fell asleep reading our books.
