Chilled day at the hostel today. We played a dice game with some Danish guests, who gave us a Danish kroner on some cord as a little gift, which was really sweet. They have offered for us to come and stay with them in the future and we have swapped numbers. The hostel is getting quite full as peoples travel plans have been delayed or cancelled due to the protests, and people are doing whatever they can to get away from Santiago. Josh had a briefing with Peter about what electrical work needs doing in the hostel. He is going to do one bar shift a week and the rest of his time will be spent doing electrical stuff. I can’t really remember what else we got up to today (writing this in retrospect!) I worked the bar in the evening and Josh was on cover shift. Josh, Lucas and Ori (other volunteers) made us some Greek food for dinner, which was lovely. There was a nice small crowd of guests in the bar with me throughout the evening. A Brazilian and a French guest used my Spotify account (thanks again dad!) to play each other music, and some of the other guests joined in too, which seemed to entertain everyone! The Brazilian guy ‘Felippe’ is going to try and meet Josh and I when we are in Brazil in February, and gave me his number along with a load of tips and recommendations for when we visit. I have to stand on a stool to reach the bar taps which always gets a laugh. At about 22:00 I got confirmed on to the volcano excursion for tomorrow. Most of the guests who were signed up to it were prepped primed and in bed by now, and I still had a few hours behind the bar. I didn’t really think about it until a few of the guests found out and told me I should be in bed by now! Instead I was sipping a wine and dancing to the music. I suppose ignorance is bliss! At the end of the night I closed up the bar and tried to get to bed as soon as I could.
