We got up and had coffee in bed. We had the day off together today, and the weather was looking lovely. We slowly got ourselves up and out the house, camera and tripod in the backpack, sun-cream applied. We walked to a café that Uri (Spanish volunteer) had suggested to us for a 22cm completo (hot dog with a choice of fillings!) It was huge and pretty cheap too! Next we went to Madd Goat – the fancy local coffee shop, and treated ourselves to a takeaway coffee. We walked past the supermarket and grabbed some fruit and chocolate for the hike. We had taken a photo of a handrawn map from the hostel for the route to the Salto del Claro waterfalls. The coffee was strong so we buzzed for the whole 2 hours hiking there. The first part of the walk was along the pavement, then along a gravel dirt track. It was green and peaceful, lots of birds making noise above us! Eventually we got to the forest and walked through the trees and down a steep muddy slope to the 80m waterfall. Josh took some photos and we climbed across the stepping stones across the stream. The water was so clear and fresh! We got wet from the splashback and the wind carried the water across in the air. It was nice and refreshing to cool off from the heat of the sun. After a little break at the waterfalls and a handful of chocolate we walked the 2 or so hours back home. We had walked 22km in total, and were ready for some food! We stopped off at the supermarket as we passed it then got back to the hostel and made ourselves gnocchi and salad. Josh sorted his packed lunch for tomorrow and went to the briefing. He is doing the volcano tomorrow! We went up to bed and watched the Crown before trying to get an early night.
