We got up and had breakfast before checking in for tomorrows flight online. It is our last day of volunteering today. Mixed feelings - this island is really special, beautiful, chilled, and it has been the perfect month of recharging our batteries. Alongside seeing pretty much all of the incredible archaeological sights, swimming in the sea, hiking up a volcano, we have also had good sleep, food, exercise, hot showers, read our books, and we were able to unpack our bags, which was an absolute bonus! On the other hand, we are looking forward to getting back to the mainland and ordering a pizza takeaway. In the whole time I have known Josh, this is the longest I have ever known him go without a pizza! We are also looking forward to some decent WiFi, and a week of exploring Chile a bit further. We will have to get back into speaking Spanish as we have had a month of almost solely speaking English! Hopefully it shouldn’t take too long to tune back in again. I cleaned the bunglows and Josh cleaned the car, one last time. We were finished by about 12:00 and went back to our studio, hiding from being given any more jobs. Josh edited some photos, and I started getting my things together. We had lunch at 14:00, mashed potato and a beef stew. Peter brought back a suitcase of frozen meat from the mainland yesterday, and the quality of the meat was so much better than they get here! We got told to keep the leftovers for our dinner, which was nice. Josh and I cleared up then went back to our studio. We spoke to mum and dad on a Whatsapp call before heading outside. It was windy but pretty sunny. We walked down past some of the maoi statues and into town where we found a little café. We shared a takeaway coffee – the first non nescafe for a month, and we could taste the difference (it was so expensive though!) Josh had a tres leches cake (his favourite!) and I a brownie topped with manjar (basically dulce de leche). Tasty, but very sweet - we put them in a bag to take home with us. We strolled back along the seafront trying to soak up the last of the incredible landscape. When we got in Josh continued editing photos and I started doing some reading and planning for our week of travel ahead. The sunset was the best one of the month, pinks and purples, what a send off! We had leftover lunch for dinner with some rice, and then it was books, shower and bed.

Josh did his last electrical shift in the hostel, and I had my last bar shift today! We wandered through town for the last time together...

About us

We are Josh and Jen and we created this site so we could have somewhere to combine Jens writing and Josh's photos of our year traveling together. It is a little keepsake for us, and also a way for friends and family to keep up to date with where we are and what we are up to.
