We were supposed to have today as a day off but had agreed to delay it to help Frederico and Leonora out. The work today consisted of ironing for me, and sanding for Josh amongst other small tasks. We had lunch on the terrace and then spent the afternoon in and by the pool. It is such bliss to jump in the pool then have a siesta on the sun loungers! I am definitely into that siesta life! Too bad it’s not in the culture at home or work! The new volunteers arrived today, Chris and Cherie who are in their mid 40’s and are from the USA. We introduced ourselves and then took them through the afternoon feed with the animals. Afterwards we got back to the pool then showered. Today is Miguels mothers 70th, so it was a big family asado (BBQ) in the evening. Josh and I helped Miguel prepare the salad and potatoes and we all ate together out on the terrace. Miguel cooked the diaphragm of the cow, and it was so tender and delicious! They put so much salt on everything here, which tastes great but must be so bad for our health! We had ribs and steak too, and the obligatory small glass of red wine of course (which is basically cheaper than water!) We had cheesecake and sang happy birthday in English and Spanish. Everyone had left by around 21:30 so Josh, Chris and I cleared and washed up and then went to bed.

About us

We are Josh and Jen and we created this site so we could have somewhere to combine Jens writing and Josh's photos of our year traveling together. It is a little keepsake for us, and also a way for friends and family to keep up to date with where we are and what we are up to.
