The morning consisted of animals, breakfast and volunteering. Josh has a routine of cleaning and filtering the pool every morning and then has tasks like sanding and varnishing. I am always cleaning! The only thing keeping me sane at this point is the podcasts I listen to whilst I clean. I have been trying to keep busy so that I don’t get asked to do the gardening, which is slow and hot work, and the gloves have holes in them so I always get prickles in my hands!

The chef Alexandra appeared at lunch-time so we spoke to Frederico who said we could not use the kitchen so the three of us would go out for lunch. He spoke of a local sandwich place down the road, which we drove to but it was shut, it is Sunday! He drove us a little further into town to a cafe. Frederico suggested a few things from the menu, but after looking, I said I fancied a burger. This was not acceptable to Frederico! He told Josh and I we had to choose between the trout and the steak as they would be the most delicious things on the menu. By this point Josh knew to keep silent that he was longing for a pizza! We basically got bullied into both having the steak, which we found quite amusing! Frederico is a bit old fashioned like that, he hates the idea of ketchup and pizza and burgers and likes things his way.

When we got back from lunch we had a sunbathe, a swim, and read our books by the pool.

We fed the animals and then spent the evening reading and watched The Crown.

About us

We are Josh and Jen and we created this site so we could have somewhere to combine Jens writing and Josh's photos of our year traveling together. It is a little keepsake for us, and also a way for friends and family to keep up to date with where we are and what we are up to.
